This morning there’s no rush to decide which side of consciousness you’re on. Pianist, composer and producer Mischa Blanos is here to be your weightless anchor between states and realities.

This beguiling selection inhabits that mysterious and intangible space somewhere behind your eyelids, where dancing, nameless shapes form and escape into morning mists. The skies too are breathing heavily now, waiting on reluctant sunrises and the shadow hands of clocks as they load, pixel by pixel, into focus. With closed eyes we can grasp at those final moments before the translucent becomes concrete, each defining our own balance point from which to fall upwards, sideways or back into sleep.

Whenever and however you choose to emerge, Mischa has a uniquely perfect infusion of electronic and classical waiting for you - a visceral oscillation of gentle tension and catharsis, of genre and of emotion.

If you can, experience Mischa performing his new EP ‘Indoors’ at the Sunset Jazz Club in Paris this Thursday.

Mischa Blanos’ selection

Toshio Matsuura Group - Change

Mischa Blanos: For me is like waking up to reality from a dream that didn’t finish, making my way through the day with heavy steps. The amazing intervention and continuation of the brass section is the melancholy state which convey that our role in life is to wake up and afterwards getting back to our deepest sleep. The drums, the bass and the synthesisers are the tip of the iceberg. They made a really beautiful version after the original track composed by Bugge Wesseltoft.

Dictaphone - 105.4

Mischa Blanos: This original sound of mixing acoustic and electronic gives me a strong belief that music is evolving so much that we are still empowered to change the world the way we want it to be. As you can see the Ostinato (repetition) give us a strong meaning of meditation through music, something that we comprehend this but don’t realised it.

Mehliana (Brad Mehldau & Mark Guiliana) - Just Call Me Nige (Live)

Mischa Blanos: No need for introduction for these two astounding artists who are playing by their own rules - that being said, new rhythm, harmonies and forms are born worldwide inspiring other artists to be off limits. Without this way of thinking, I have no idea if we can survive on a daily basis in terms of emotions.

MailTape’s selection

Mischa Blanos - Two Sugar Cubes

ImaCrea: Generosity, kindness, mindfulness, this what I hear when I listen to this track by Mischa Blanos. This composition starting with a simple pattern finds its way at its own pace, as if the music was the one leading, not the composer.

Floating Points - Falaise

ImaCrea: I hear the wind far away, coming in my direction. The waves crashing on the rocks, it’s almost dark and suddenly a boat appears at distance. Balancing from one side to another, danger seems close and the high tide threatens to sink the crew. People play violins on the deck and the music emanating from the instruments like vapor seems to form a glowing cloud embracing the ship.

Fennesz - We Trigger the Sun

ImaCrea: Close your eyes and let a landscape be drawn in your dreams. Where do all these mental images come from?

Philip Glass - Vessels

ImaCrea: If you’ve always wanted to fly, now is the moment to try. This beautiful track is from the soundtrack of Koyaanisqatsi, a film by Godfrey Reggio. Released in 1982, this movie is one of the first using timelapse. The photography, directed by Ron Fricke, is astounding. It’s been one of the most shocking esthetic experience I had in the last month. It’s a breath taking opera-movie documenting the evolution of mankind since the electric revolution. It didn’t age a bit and constitute a masterpiece not to miss for anyone looking to get some perspective on our all-technological life we live in now.

That’s it for this morning! As always thank you so much for listening. Without you, there’s no MailTape. Much love and respect to Mischa Blanos for his Sunday selections, and to Pierre-Julien Fieux for his inspiring illustration.
