This morning, we are excited and honored to welcome Antoine Bellanger as our guest. You may remember his unique sound from some of his tracks featured in episodes #588 and #487.
Naturally, this episode reflects the artist himself: surprising, eclectic, quirky, yet sublime like a forest in autumn. Prepare to immerse yourself in the woods from the very first moments of listening, and join us as we venture to the mountains in search of the living.
Antoine Bellanger’s selection
“I constantly listen to a lot of new, more or less weird, and very different music. I keep my favorites like in a little park of small monsters that can appear and disappear instantly. And some of these records or encounters stay because they open doors for me, confirming paths.”
Marc Namblard - High moorlands – electric roaring with brief clashes
“I met Marc Namblard at one of his field recording workshops where we spent most of the time listening to nature behind a bush at night. So, I returned home reassured, with the feeling that yes, I had the right to do what I was doing—spending an afternoon listening to and recording the birds, the streams.”
Kali Malone - Spectacle of Ritual
“Kali Malone reminds me that one can (or should?) take their time. Her albums are incredibly beautiful. She has a rare and wonderful sense of melody in drone and experimental music. And she plays the organ; the organ is beautiful. It brings me back to my grandfather’s organ, where I had my first musical emotions.”
“In my park of little monsters, Stas Czekalski has entered without warning, bringing along the entire Mondoj label, likely to stay forever. His music fits me well without further explanations, simply because it’s good.”
ImaCrea’s selection
Antoine Bellanger - Depuis les cimes
ImaCrea: “This captivating melody, I’ve listened to it so many times, especially with my friend Ametonyo Silva during our residency just a few weeks ago on the Sentier des Lauzes (thank you again Ame!) The lyrics make you want to sing while watching the landscape and the leaves dance. I also love that there are multiple chapters within the same title, like a story unfolding.”
Léonie Pernet - Acid Niger (Gael Rakotondrabe Rework)
ImaCrea: “I’ve listened to Léonie Pernet’s latest album, Poèmes Pulvérisés, extensively. That said, I wasn’t sure how it would fit into this particular episode, and then this newly reworked version by Gael Rakotondrabe emerges, showcasing an irresistible blend of delicate and poetic strength.”
Alabaster DePlume - The Lucky Ones (feat. Danalogue)
ImaCrea: “Discovered during my late-night searches, I was blown away by this album. I’m just beginning to explore the world of Alabaster DePlume, and it excites me because I feel there is so much beauty to uncover!”
Sessa - Revolução Interior
ImaCrea: “A gentle revolution that seeps in through music— that speaks to me completely. And was that what Antoine was thinking about when he walks and records the birds?”
We appreciate you sharing this adventure with us! Special gratitude to Julie Wojtczak for her stunning illustration, and to Antoine Bellanger for joining us on Sunday and offering such an inspiring lineup.
